To many people art galleries can be a little stuffy, but the Tate Modern aims to change all that with their latest exhibit from artist Carsten Höller.
Test Site 06 consists of five helter-skelter slides built into the cavernous Turbine Hall. The tallest slide drops 26.5 metres from the top floor of the building and is 55.5 metres long. This is a free exhibit and will be open from the 10th of October 2006 to the 9th of April 2007.
For Carsten Höller, the experience of sliding is best summed up in a phrase by the French writer Roger Caillois as a ‘voluptuous panic upon an otherwise lucid mind’.
