You might not immediately think of bingo as a glamorous game. Sure, it’s well known for a timeless charm that’s captured audiences for decades. But when you imagine what celebrities do with their spare time… bingo is unlikely to be at the top of your list.

The number of traditional bingo halls in the UK has indeed fluctuated in recent times. Still, it turns out that several big names have confessed their love for this retro game over the years. Plus it’s undergone something of a makeover recently, with accessible online bingo options and creative in-person events helping to regrow its reputation.

So which stars have revealed their unexpected fascinations with the game?

Mick Jagger

The legendary rock band The Rolling Stones have done their fair share of touring. In fact, they’ve toured so regularly over the last six decades that they’ve racked up over 2,000 concerts – and that means plenty of downtime to fill on the road.

Step up bingo! Mick reportedly has a long-term love for the game, playing on his tour bus as well as hosting bingo parties at his luxurious home in Richmond.

Matthew McConaughey

American actor Matthew McConaughey has starred in big-name films such as Interstellar, The Wolf of Wall Street and The Wedding Planner. But when the COVID-19 pandemic forced a halt on his work, he decided to play a different role by hosting an online bingo battle for his local community in Texas!

Could a new career as a bingo caller be on the horizon?

Kate Moss

Kate Moss, the famous model, used to live a wild Rock ‘n’ Roll life, but after marrying and divorcing Jamie Hince, she now prefers spending her Saturday nights playing bingo with her friend. She has embraced family life and is committed to her family, often playing bingo with them and her friend Sadie Frost.

Kate’s ability to balance her successful career with parenthood is inspiring for many in her industry. She is a great example to follow and her love for bingo is just one of the many reasons why we love her!

Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams is known for participating in numerous bingo events in both Hollywood and the UK, with the intention of raising money for charity. Although there are rumours that the singer and his friends host bingo parties at their own homes, it is their passion for the game and using it to support a good cause that is truly inspiring.

Given the iconic game’s wide appeal, which star do you think will reveal their passion for bingo next?

How do you win at bingo?

In basic bingo, you mark numbers off as they are called out and completing a line is a win, prompting a shoot of LINE or BINGO. Depending on the card, this may be vertical, horizontal or diagonal like on the ones above

A full house is when every number has been marked off, which may be a BINGO or HOUSE call.
