“AI is not the future of fashion, it’s already its present” explains expert Thomas Delamare
Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the fashion industry faster than any other technological innovation. From AI-assisted clothing creation to production optimized by algorithms, and through ultra-personalized customer experiences, it is redefining every aspect of the sector. To better understand this transformation, we spoke with Thomas Delamare, aka STEEZ, an expert in the fusion of fashion and AI. his expertise in digital design and emerging technologies, make him a key figure in the future of the fashion industry.
Is AI in fashion just a trend or a structural change?
Thomas Delamare: “It’s no longer a trend, it’s an irreversible transformation. Today, brands that don’t integrate artificial intelligence into fashion are already falling behind. We’ve shifted from a system where intuition dictated trends to one where data and predictive analysis shape collections like Heuritech. According to McKinsey, AI could generate between 150 and 275 billion dollars in additional value for the luxury, fashion, and retail industries by 2025. AI design tools, such as CLO3D, MidJourney, Kling, enable the creation of ultra-realistic digital garment with tailornova, accelerate prototyping, and optimize production chains. In five years, we will see fashion houses driven by machine learning algorithms, capable of generating custom-made clothing in real-time, tailored to market demands and produced with a reduced environmental impact.”
How is AI revolutionizing the creation and production of clothing?
Thomas Delamare: “AI-assisted creation allows for design generation in seconds, by analysing trends on social media, relying on historical references, and instantly testing variations of cuts, colors, and fabrics. On the production chain, AI optimizes material usage and drastically reduces waste. Factories like Sewbo in the U.S. use autonomous robots for textile assembly, while platforms like Higg Index allow for real-time evaluation of the environmental impact of collections. AI fashion start-ups are developing zero waste solutions, combining additive manufacturing (3D textile printing) and predictive AI, radically changing the way we design and consume fashion.”
Will AI kill fast fashion or accelerate it even more?
Thomas Delamare: “It will transform it. Traditional fast fashion, based on overproduction and rapid obsolescence, is doomed to disappear. With AI-driven “on-demand” fashion, we’re moving to a model where each garment is produced only when ordered, with sizes and cuts tailored to each customer. Amazon, Zara, and H&M are already testing AI-powered supply chains, capable of anticipating stock and minimizing unsold items. In the future, consumers will use 3D body scans to order perfectly fitted clothing, reducing returns and increasing customer satisfaction. Fast fashion won’t disappear, but it will become smarter, more responsible, and more personalized thanks to artificial intelligence in fashion retail and e-commerce.”
Could creativity be stifled by AI?
Thomas Delamare: “That’s a misconception. AI doesn’t replace human creativity, it amplifies it. Designers who integrate generative algorithms and augmented intelligence into their process can explore styles that would otherwise be impossible to conceive. Previously, testing a new silhouette or an innovative textile would require months of R&D. Today, a designer can simulate thousands of digital prototypes in a few hours, print them in 3D textiles, and instantly adjust them. Digital fashion and virtual garments (NFT Fashion, Metaverse Fashion) also provide new grounds for creative expression. With platforms like The Fabricant, fashion becomes 100% digital and interactive, with no physical limits.”
What will the role of humans be in the fashion of tomorrow?
Thomas Delamare: “AI can create clothing, but it doesn’t understand culture, emotions, or storytelling. The designer of tomorrow will be a hybrid between artist, analyst, and engineer, capable of merging data science and craftsmanship. A great creator will no longer be just a stylist but also an expert in fashion technology, user
experience (UX clothing design), and augmented visual storytelling. Those who can blend algorithms and intuition will be the leaders of future fashion.”
What advice would you give to young designers who want to innovate?
Thomas Delamare: “Don’t just learn design, train in artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and blockchain for fashion. The fashion of tomorrow will be neither purely technological nor purely artisanal —it will be the alliance of both, driven by visionary designers. The greatest revolutions always come from cross-disciplinary intersections: the fashion of tomorrow will be shaped by those who can integrate AI, textile bioengineering, and new digital interfaces. Fashion tech start-ups are booming, and the market is rapidly growing: the AI fashion sector is expected to reach 17.41 billion dollars by 2031 (The Insight Partners). If you want to make an impact, be curious, experiment, and break the rules.”
Thomas Delamare embodies this new generation of augmented creators, capable of combining fashion, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation to rethink the entire industry. The fashion of tomorrow will be neither purely technological nor purely artisanal, it will be the alliance of both, driven by visionary designers.
Far from being just a tool, AI is redefining sustainable fashion, customer personalization, and ready-to-wear business models. Designers who can master these technologies will shape the future of fashion, with immersive experiences, smart clothing, and eco-friendly production.
