The definitions of campervan and motorhome
The definitions of these two modes of transport will help distinguish them from one another. Let’s start with a campervan which refers to a van that has been designed and fitted out to become a camping vehicle. This means that the vehicle is equipped with kitchen facilities, multi-functional furniture and beds. Usually, there’s no separation or wall between the driving section and the rest of the living area.
As for a motorhome, these are much sturdier and offer more in the way of comfortable living. They’re essentially fully contained mobile homes that are made from bigger vehicles like trucks or busses. All motorhomes have kitchens and bathrooms whilst some at the upper end of the price scale have fixed beds, televisions and air conditioning.

Motorhomes tend to have better amenities, appliances, and home comforts
Key differences
The main difference between motorhomes and campervans the size, with the former much longer and higher and more of spacious mobile accommodation. As a motorhome can sleep more people, they tend to cost more money.
In general, motorhomes offer a higher level of comfort and more accurately replicate all the facilities of a real home. Built for larger groups and families, you can easily enjoy the same life quality as you would in a static home.
From fixed cabinets to fridges, sinks, water tanks, showers and adequate storage, motorhomes go above and beyond to make travellers feel comfortable. By comparison Campervans rarely have these features.
And whilst there might be a few key differences, ensure that your vehicle is protected against accidents with comprehensive campervan insurance.
Different kinds of motorhomes
As with anything, there are exceptions, and these crop up once we get into more specific motorhome models. Low-profile motorhomes are having a real moment and resemble caravans with their slimline rooves and streamlined design.
Additionally, in this age of high-tech conversions, there are lots of crossovers when it comes to what can be defined as a campervan or motorhome. On the one hand, you can have a converted bus kitted out with a kitchen, bathroom and storage whilst a four-wheel drive car can fit in a kitchen and pop-up bed.
However you envision your life on the road, be it with all the trappings of luxury or with life’s bare essentials, a campervan or motorhome is always a great investment.
